Cape Cod Waterfowling offers some of the finest coastal waterfowl hunting in the United States. Located along the Atlantic Flyway, the waters of Massachusetts attract thousands of migrating sea ducks each fall and winter. From powerful Common Eiders to fast-flying Scoters and vocal Long-tailed ducks, Cape Cod delivers a true New England sea duck hunting experience.
At Cape Cod Waterfowling, we specialize in guided sea duck hunting trips on Cape Cod Bay, Nantucket Sound, and surrounding Atlantic waters. Our hunts are carefully planned around tides, wind direction, weather patters, and bird movement to give you the best opportunity for a successful and memorable hunt.
Cape Cod is more than just beaches and summer tourism. In winter, it transforms into a sea duck hunter's destination. The Atlantic coastline, historic harbors, and abundant wintering birds make it one of the most exciting places in the country to pursue sea ducks. From Common Eiders to Black Scoters, Surf Scoters to Long-tailed Ducks, the diversity of species found here sets Cape Cod apart. Whether hunting protected waters or setting up along outer beaches facing the Atlantic, the experience is defined by tradition, challenge, and coastal beauty. For those passionate about sea duck hunting, Cape Cod offers not just opportunity - but heritage.
Common Eider
The Common Eider is the signature sea duck of Cape Cod. Large and unmistakable, drakes display bold black and white plumage with a pale green nape, while hens are beautifully mottled brown. Eiders raft in large groups over mussel beds and rocky structure throughout Cape Cod Bay and Nantucket Sound.
Black Scoter
Black Scoters are abundant along Cape Cod's coastline. Compact and fast, these birds travel low over the water in tight flocks and feed heavily on shellfish and marine invertebrates.
Surf Scoter
Surf Scoters are recognized by bold white head patches and colorful bills. Frequently found along outer beaches and inside Cape Cod Bay, they favor mussel beds and clam flats.
White-winged Scoter
The largest scoter species found on Cape Cod, the White-winged Scoter is identified by its distinctive white wing flash in flight.
Long-tailed Duck
Known for their unique vocal calls, Long-tailed ducks gather in large rafts in deeper coastal waters. Their striking winter plumage makes them a highlight of any sea duck hunt.
Red-breasted Merganser
Common in Cape Cod harbors and estuaries, the Red-breasted Merganser is frequently encountered during late-season waterfowl hunts.
Why Cape Cod is a Premier Sea Duck Destination
Cape Cod's geography makes it uniquely suited for sea duck hunting in Massachusetts. Surrounded by Atlantic coastline and protected bays, the region provides productive shellfish beds, consistent winter bird concentrations, diverse sea duck species, and a historic New England waterfowling tradition.
The Cape Cod Waterfowling Experience
